| The works formed a part of the
preparations for the XX Winter Olympics and
involved the demolition and war damage reinstatement of the
Lingotto area and the city stadium, all completed
in record time.
The works carried out for “Agenzia Torino 2006”
included the demolition of the stands, the old athletics field,
swimming pool and all sports equipment in the area adjacent
to the Turin Stadium. This was to make space for the construction
of the new Palahockey stadium for the Winter
Olympics held in February 2006. The building was, without
doubt, one of the most important buildings constructed for
the Olympics.
The short time period allowed for the work did not leave much
time for mobilising personnel, machinery and equipment. However,
thanks to the efforts of Vitali, the work was completed successfully
and on time. The project was divided into three working phases.
Phase I was the demolition of the structure (20,000
cubic metres and height up to 25 metres) housing
the old stands of the athletics field, the perimeter walls
and buried passages. Phase II involved excavating the entire
area to make way for the planned Palahockey building. In brief,
not only demolition, but also construction work. All in just
6 months.
The design of the demolition phases and the specific working
methods adopted enabled the project to be completed two months
ahead of schedule, thus obtaining the bonus provided
for by the contract for early completion.
