The construction
of two new bridges in Valle Serina became necessary following
the landslide of 15th June 2001.
The disastrous landslide blocked the S.P. 27 in Valle Serina
at location km 22+400 for a length of approximately one hundred
metres, created enormous difficulties for traffic flows throughout
the entire valley.
The works carried out can be summarised as follows:
- construction of a new road together with n. 2 bridges in
mixed steel and reinforced concrete;
- link road and causeway between the two bridges;
- formation of new river banks with rock-fill for the river
bed
The total length of the new road is approximately 370.00 metres.
The two bridges are identical as regards length and type,
and have been built in a mixture of steel and reinforced concrete
using simply supported beams of clear span 45.00 metres. Self-oxidising
COR-TEN type weathering steel was used in the structure,
which is resistant to atmospheric corrosion for obvious maintenance
reasons.
